Game vision statement

Image
*Hi Guys* I am going to describe to you guys what a game vision statement and then give you mine. A game statement is pretty much a pitch of the game you are going to create on paper. It should give you what the genre of the game is and what are the specific mechanics of a game and how it should look like. It should also tell you the storyline of the game. The document should also have the goals you want the specific game to achieve. The game I am going to present is "Agar 3d". This game is a single or multiplayer game that will be online and very easy to play.  Description: In this game when you start playing the game, the first thing you will do is choose what colour you want your character to be and from there you will then go start the game open land. You will find when you look around it is a square and it will be on grass land but the landscape can vary. You might find yourself as a round ball in a sandy terrain or you might be shivering in an Antarctic like

Game MDA Reading

Image
*Hi Guys*  From reading the article on Design, Dynamics & Experience (DDE) for Game design.  It first introduced us to the topic of MDA, the framework of it and what MDA means and stands for(Mechanics, Dynamics, Aesthetics). It was first introduced by Robin et al, Hunicke, Leblanc, Zubec and this was all in 2014. In 2015 MDA was analyzed and critised by Luiz Duarte and Lana Polasky. They could identify two weaknesses. The weaknesses were that it focuses more on game mechanics, than anything else. This in turn made it not suitable for games that were gamified or games that were experience orientated. The MDA suffered in trying to suffer to provide a coherent framework for narrative game designs, however from this other scientist and practioners provided different frameworks that would be more coherent compared to MDA.         In 2008 Jesse schell created a different framework, It was greatly received by the public and by the scientist(Elemental Tetrad). This framework is considere

Feedback Strategies

Be A Mirror From my reading of this article I actually learned a lot. It talked about being a mirror, when it came to giving feedback to others. The feedback you receive or even give to others can help them continue on the growth mindset path. This in turn can help them develop in time to improve on their abilities. In the article it also showed through example how to change. The author gave five qualities of feedback, which are to be specific on how you give them feedback in terms of how you give that individual person feedback. Another quality to have when giving feedback to people is to focus on what the reader is doing and not what the reader is not doing, as according to the author of the article is that a mirror is can not reflect on what is not there. A quality that is in the article is that you should focus on what the person you are giving feedback to put in because by doing this it'll show that effort is more valued. The fourth quality is to make sure the person

Game Research

The game idea I am going to base my research on is agar, which is a game I want to base my game on. I think if I can pull it off, It would be such a fun game to create and make in the end. The game will be addictive, However if I find that is too hard to make I can still go back to the brainstorms I had and use One of them. Game Mechanics: The mechanics of my game should allow you to grow bigger every time that you eat something or get close to something that you touch and when you get touched or get eaten, you will start again from the beginning as a small object. This will in turn affect your score too. The bigger you get will affect how big your score as well. The bigger you get the more points you will get as you grow bigger and bigger. I would like my game to place in empty land. There wont have to be any obstacles as such but the actual items that are playing the game. I would like the game to be crowded so it makes it hard, as once the thing gets bigger it gets harder to pl

Unity Tutorial 02

*Hello Guys* This week of Unity was just about getting the truck to move in different directions using the arrow keys or using the letters W,A,S,D, so the player would have full control when playing the game. Another thing that we was supposed to do this week was try fix the plane game. It had a lot of errors and mistakes. I found this okay to fix because I had the videos to go back on and what I had already did in the Truck project. For this weeks of Unity, I found this week slightly harder. I had a bunch of problems like the view not focusing on the vehicle. I was confused on how to get the focus back on the vehicle. One thing I realized was that when I cant figure something out, I get really frustrated with myself and it affects my mood 😞. That being said, I asked one of my friends how did I fix the problem and I just had to click on the vehicle and press the f button. This made it focus back in....They way I was so relived 😃. I think this shows the power of asking questions, if

Game Elements

Image
What are the qualities of Games? Qualities of Games: The person in the article starts saying that he may have contradicted himself because, he said earlier that games can not be defined, however according to the person goes to say that a game can be defined. A game can be defined if you spread out all the many different definitions that explain a game, you will find that there are themes that appear frequently when different sources define a game. The person in the article calls these formal elements(rules, conflict, decision-making...).Challenge for game designers refer to them as atoms, because the small chunks may be studied individually. Atoms of the game  : According this article there is no definite list of atoms of a game , as there is numerous different metrics and classification of which parts are atoms and which are not, so that means that there is no perfect list. There are still common themes that occur often, which are. Players Goals Resources and Resource Management

Feedback and Thoughts

Fixed Mindset article  From reading this article, what I learned is that there is two types of mindsets that you can adopt. One is called a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is when you believe that you just rely on the ability that you have and that the ability or even intelligence can not be improved upon. In the article it says that this mindset is usually adopted when you are younger, by constant praise and no failure to bounce back to learn from. This in turn leads to that specific person thinking that they are great at whatever they do and just bad at whatever they do and in return this person will think that no matter how much they improve they will be the same. The other mindset opposite to the one mentioned beforehand. This mindset is when you believe that you can improve on anything if you give it the time and focus. This can be truly anything from intelligence to skills in any area. This mindset also encourages you to make mistakes and learn from them and push you out of c

Game Brainstorm

Game Idea one My first game idea is based of the few tutorials. I think that a good idea of a game would be to have a trucks, and the trucks would be different colour and the person playing the game can choose the colour of his truck. Then what I can do is extend the road and maybe make the road wider, so that not just the one truck can fit in, but more can fit in. I then could add other materials like boxes and make them a obstacles but we can add more than just boxes. We could add obstacles, such as holes and speed bumps on the road, so it adds to the excitement to the player. I think that another feature I could add to the game is the ability to knock other trucks out off the road to fall so that they're out of the game.  Game Idea two Agar is a multiplayer online game that requires that you must eat other dots to grow and get larger. The aim of the game is to be the largest dot, but you have to be careful  that you don't get eaten by a dot that is larger to you. My idea h

Unity Tutorial 01

*Hi Guys* Today, what I had to do was try program a truck game on this software called Unity. Basically what I had to do was try and follow along using the tutorials to try and program the truck to go forward and knock out the boxes that was in its way. The tutorials were in bitesize chunks and at first I was confused with the order of the videos in lesson, however once I got the hang of the way it was structured, I started getting into a workflow . I learned cool tricks from the tutorials like adjusting the screen to your preference, and where you want the game scene to be seen either higher and lower or even to either side. One other thing I learned was that you can change the colour of the game scene to whatever you want. This is good and makes it easier to distinguish from the game scene and the original scene. I thought that purple looked nice😋 We also learned how to make a C# script, which was pretty easy, just had to create a folder and click into C# script. One importan

What is a game anyway?     * Hi Guys* Today I read a paper that was about what a game truly is and what is the actual definition of a game. The paper is by Ian Schreiber and in the paper he discusses the different terms and different opinions that challenge his opinion on what a game is, by the experts that create games as their opinions are more are centered more on how a game is built and what are the components of a game. These components consist of "rules, resources, actions and stories..." the author of the paper calls these components "formal elements". He then goes on to discuss how different games can be distinguished. He uses the game Three to Fifteen as an example, because this game specifically can be called many different things, such as Magic Square, Tic-tac Toe or even Noughts and Crosses or various different games depending on where you live, so in summary it is important to de

Growth Mindset

Hi Guys Before today I had not knew who Carol Dwek was, but today from looking at the snippets today and reading what she has to say about growth mindset and fixed mindset is really inspiring. I do plan to take this attitude on board and try to make it something I do naturally. I think what is good about this specific type of mindset is that you can apply to literally anything in life. I think before I seen myself as someone with a fixed mindset, however I think that my main problem was I wouldn't catch myself thinking in this way. I would say that to improve I have to focus more on the process but at the same time be lazy. I do think the Fixed mindset was slightly put on me with football, because since very early I always praised for being good at football, and that might have made me lazy and not want the desire to grow more as
